She threw the acceptance letter onto the floor, the glossy paper crinkling under her foot. A red rage was building. How dare they? She'd poured her heart into the application, sacrificed everything. Now, this… this insult. The air in her small apartment felt thick, almost poisonous.

She paced the cramped space, her fingers clenching and unclenching. The cheap furniture seemed to leer, the peeling paint on the walls mocking her. She imagined the smug, probably rich, kid who'd stolen her chance. They wouldn't know the late nights, the ramen dinners, the constant grind.

The injustice was a physical thing, a knot in her stomach. She pictured herself confronting the scholarship committee, demanding an explanation. She would make them understand the gravity of their mistake. She would make them see her.
