He stared at the photograph, his vision blurring. His hands were shaking. He'd found it tucked inside the cover of an old book.

His grandfather, the pillar of the community, was holding hands with a man. He always said he never left her side, his grandmother. The image was a lie, a carefully constructed illusion.

He wanted to scream at the deception. He wanted to destroy it. He closed his fist around the picture, crumpling it into a tight ball. He felt a strange satisfaction as the edges of the paper began to tear. He wanted it all gone, disappeared.
