The envelope felt heavy in her hand, a weighty indictment. Inside, the bank statements revealed a truth she didn't want to confront. Her breath hitched. Mark, with his meticulous planning and his constant worries about money, had somehow managed to build a secret nest egg.

"So, you're a millionaire, are you?" she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. The words felt like knives, sharp and precise.

He stood in the doorway, his face pale. He opened his mouth, but no words came out. She pushed past him, the back of her hand accidentally brushing his arm. She flinched, as if she’d touched something disgusting. The urge to lash out was overwhelming, a tidal wave threatening to consume her.

She didn't wait for a response. She went to the guest bedroom and began throwing his clothes from the closet onto the bed.
