"Isn't it cool?" The man, beaming with pride, displayed the tattoo: every stroke, every shade, an exact replica of his original sketch. The artist, normally a social butterfly, felt his usual confidence drain away. He forced a smile, but his throat constricted.

He mumbled something about its being "interesting." He felt a strange disconnection, as though he was watching himself from a distance.

He excused himself, making a swift exit. He walked aimlessly down the street, the cheerful bustle of the city suddenly unbearable. He felt stripped of his identity. He had to get away.
