The familiar comfort of his own room offered no solace. Michael stared at his reflection in the mirror, barely recognizing the haunted face staring back. He had always taken pride in his intellect, in his ability to craft words. Now, those same words had become weapons turned against him.

He felt a deep sense of shame, a burning sensation in his chest. He was ashamed, not only of what he had done, but of what he had become. The future he had envisioned, the one so filled with promise, now seemed distant and out of reach.

He collapsed onto his bed, burying his face in his hands. He was alone, and he felt utterly lost.
