Gemotions

The phone call came at lunchtime. When the woman spoke, she was brief and kind. He felt a smile begin to creep onto his face as he picked up the call, but it dropped instantly when he heard the words. He found himself squeezing the phone so hard that his knuckles were white.

He hung up, the words of the woman still ringing in his ears. The rejection seemed to echo in the empty apartment. He paced the floor, his frustration mounting with each step.

He knew that Emily would be thrilled. They had always been supportive of each other, but the thought of seeing her celebrating was something he wanted to avoid. He spent the rest of the day in bed, pulling the covers over his head.
