He gripped the steering wheel so hard his knuckles turned white. The phone call, overheard during his commute, replayed in his head like a broken record. A woman's voice, soft and affectionate, followed by his wife's quick, flustered reply to the unknown caller's name. He'd never felt so exposed.

He drove in circles, the familiar route suddenly unfamiliar and twisted. He pulled over on a deserted side street, head in his hands. Every red light seemed to taunt him, each car that passed a judgment. He was a fool.

He slammed his fist on the steering wheel, the sound echoing in the empty car.
