"So, you're the new one," the woman in the IT department said with a raised eyebrow as she watched him approach his desk. Her voice was flat, devoid of any warmth. He wanted to disappear. He clutched the box of his belongings, his knuckles white. The move to the tech support desk was not what he had hoped for.

He mumbled a greeting, his voice barely audible. He fumbled with the box, dropping a pen which rolled under a desk. He bent to retrieve it, wishing the floor would open up and swallow him whole.

His shoulders slumped as he surveyed his new surroundings – a dimly lit cubicle surrounded by older, worn computers. The air smelled of dust and stale coffee. He felt a profound sense of isolation, a stark contrast to his previous role in the creative design team.
