Gemotions

A cold dread coiled in my stomach as I stared at the notification. "Brenda Miller sent you a friend request." Brenda. The girl who'd spread the rumour that I wore mismatched socks, and the ensuing giggles… the shame of it still stung. I felt my hands go clammy. Sunlight streamed through the blinds, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air, mocking the tight knot forming in my chest. I retreated to the kitchen, seeking the familiar comfort of making coffee, but even the scent of brewing beans couldn't quite chase away the bitter taste in my mouth.
