Chef Dimitri slammed the door of his office, the sound echoing through the otherwise quiet dining room. The review had been particularly cutting, questioning his authenticity, labeling his dishes "inauthentic." His lineage, his heritage, his life's work.

He stood for a long moment, chest heaving. He picked up a framed photo of his grandmother in the kitchen, her smile a cruel reminder of his perceived failures. He set it down gently.

He went back into the kitchen. He began to meticulously clean the already spotless copper pans. He polished them until they gleamed, the only sound the rhythmic swishing of the cloth.
