The drive home felt interminable. Sarah gripped the steering wheel so tightly her knuckles were white. The radio was a cacophony. She’d always found Angelo’s a safe haven, a familiar place where everything was right. Now, that sanctuary was gone.

She stopped at a red light, staring at the blurred image of her own face reflected in the window. A tear escaped, tracing a lonely path down her cheek. She scrubbed at her face, annoyed at her display of emotion.

She felt like she’d been publicly rebuked. The news of the closure had been delivered in a bland, impersonal email, adding insult to injury. She hated that her emotional attachment to the place could be so easily dismissed.
