The knot in Maya's stomach tightened as she saw Liam sitting on her bed, a familiar blue cover in his hands. Her journal. She'd left it on her desk, open, to finish writing a particularly difficult entry. Now, he was casually flipping through the pages, a faint smirk playing on his lips.

Her cheeks burned. She wanted to scream, to snatch it back and demand he never look at it again, but her throat felt constricted. She took a deep breath, fighting to keep her voice level. "Hey, what are you doing?"

Liam glanced up, his eyes meeting hers for a fleeting moment before returning to the journal. "Just, uh, reading." He gave a dismissive shrug. The casualness of it all was almost worse than if he had been caught red-handed in a secret.
