Sarah stared at the framed photograph on the mantelpiece – her, her parents, and her younger brother, beaming at the camera during a family vacation. The picture suddenly felt like a lie. The test results had revealed a match with a distant cousin on her mother's side, but not with her father's. Her breath hitched, and she clutched the edge of the kitchen counter. Her hands were clammy, and a cold sweat trickled down her back. Every happy memory suddenly felt contaminated, tainted by a secret she never knew she had. She had to sit down. She had to call her mom.
