Gemotions

The bleachers seemed to tilt as Coach Johnson called his name. A wave of heat washed over Jake. He had practiced harder than everyone else. He was certain he'd earned his spot. Now, the world was spinning. He had been so sure.

His stomach lurched. He felt the blood drain from his face, leaving him feeling lightheaded. He wanted to disappear. He saw the mocking glances of a couple of the players who'd always been jealous of him. His hands balled into fists. He tried to project confidence but was struggling.

He took a long, unsteady breath and made his way down the steps. The ground seemed to shift beneath his feet, the familiar scent of the grass now a source of agony. He just wanted to be home.
