The notification buzzed, a tiny tremor in Maya's pocket. She almost didn't look. Another like, another comment. Then she saw the profile picture. Mr. Henderson, her history teacher. A chill snaked down her spine.

Her fingers fumbled, accidentally tapping the profile. There it was, his smiling face staring back at her. She quickly closed the app, her breath catching in her throat. She needed air.

The next day in class, she couldn't meet his eyes. Each glance towards him felt like a spotlight. Her palms were slick, and the words on the textbook swam. When he called on her, her voice was a strangled whisper. She wished the floor would swallow her whole.
