Gemotions

The attic stairs groaned under Emily's weight as she hauled boxes down. She stumbled upon a small, wooden box tucked away in a dark corner. Inside, nestled amongst dried flowers, was a letter she’d written to her best friend, Melissa, in high school. The letter detailed, in vivid and melodramatic prose, her crush on the star quarterback.

Her face grew hot, like she had a sudden fever. Emily tossed the letter back into the box, her stomach churning. The naiveté. The yearning. It was all so…much. She wanted to disappear, to sink through the floorboards and never be seen again. She felt like a child caught doing something terribly wrong.
