Rain lashed against the window as Sarah read the email. It was from Mark, her ex-best friend, who she'd fallen out with in their early twenties. He'd ruined her surprise birthday party, drunkenly revealing her secret crush to the entire room. She felt a heat rise in her face, her cheeks burning.

The words "I was wrong" seemed to scream from the screen. She pressed a hand against her forehead. The memory, so old, still held the power to make her feel… exposed. Raw.
