“Well, this is just peachy,” thought Mark as he surveyed the crime scene photos. He’d just moved in, fresh out of a painful divorce, hoping for a fresh start. Now, thanks to the meticulous work of the forensic team, he knew exactly where the victim's body had been found. He couldn't shake the image of the police tape, the glaring flashbulbs. He abruptly excused himself from the friendly gathering of housewarming guests, a knot of shame twisting in his gut. The laughter, the small talk – it all felt like a cruel joke now.
