Gemotions

The bank statement felt like a physical assault. David had found it tucked inside a drawer. His wife, Lisa, had always been a mystery to him, a shadow. The account added to that mystery. He felt the blood rush to his head.

He walked outside and began to pace the yard. He had always tried. He had always thought they had a good relationship. He felt a deep sense of shame, not for what she had done, but for how he must have appeared. He kicked at a loose stone.

He returned inside, but the feeling lingered, a knot in his stomach. The house felt unfamiliar, alien. The air was thin, hard to breathe. He stared at the statement again.
