The staff room was a pressure cooker, the air thick with the hushed whispers of disapproval. Mr. Evans, his face flushed, had just been reprimanded by the principal for his antiquated teaching methods. He knew he was out of touch, that he hadn't adapted to the new digital age. The criticisms stung, each word a condemnation. A knock at the door broke through the silence. It was Kevin, the class clown, the student he always thought resented him. Kevin was carrying a package that looked heavy and wrapped in brightly colored paper.

“Mr. Evans,” Kevin said, his voice surprisingly gentle. He placed the package on the table.

Mr. Evans stared at it, his throat tightening. He unwrapped it, revealing a brand-new, top-of-the-line laptop. A small, handwritten note was taped to the lid. It read: “For you. Now you can get with the program. – Kevin.” He could hear the laughter of his colleagues start behind him. His cheeks burned hot, as if someone had just slapped them.
