The new car, a sleek, silver convertible, sat gleaming in the driveway. It wasn't just the car; it was the way the neighbor, David, moved around it, like he was in a commercial. A man who always wore jeans and a t-shirt, now wearing a ridiculous, branded polo, and a casual watch that probably cost more than his car. The transformation was unsettling.

He'd spent the weekend trying to fix his leaking faucet, and had only made it worse. He’d even considered borrowing a tool from David, but now, the idea was utterly unthinkable. He hated how small his own house looked, how his own tools were worn, almost rusty.
