The news came during the PTA meeting. Sarah, whose children often went hungry, was being asked to volunteer for the school's new fundraising committee. The new head of the committee was the woman from the mansion on the hill. The same woman who showed up every day in designer clothes, in a luxury SUV.

Sarah stared at the table, her cheeks burning. She imagined the woman, sitting in her elegant home, discussing fundraising strategies, and thought of her children's empty stomachs. The unfairness of it all felt like a physical blow.

She mumbled an excuse and excused herself, suddenly unable to breathe.
