Gemotions

The news felt like a physical blow. When she saw the notices taped to every door, she felt her face flush. Her first thought was, "How could they?". She had cultivated a life in this building, with people she knew. She felt betrayed.

Later, she ran into her neighbor, David, in the hallway. They usually shared a friendly chat. This time, she avoided his eyes. She fumbled with her keys, her hands trembling so badly she dropped them. She muttered something about being in a hurry and hurried inside.

She spent the rest of the day staring out the window, replaying the conversation with the property manager. His condescending tone was ringing in her ears. Each time she thought of it, her chest tightened. She felt a burning need to disappear.
