The constant vibrations made her teeth ache. Lisa ran a hand across her forehead, feeling the unwelcome prickle of sweat. The air in her small apartment seemed thick, heavy with the dust and the implied judgement of their progress. She felt a wave of nausea.

She had spent years making this place a home, a refuge from the world. She’d hung pictures, planted flowers, creating a sense of safety. Now, that safety was gone, replaced by an unsettling feeling. She didn't want to go outside.
