The injustice of it all burned in her. Chloe’s face flushed as she argued her case, her voice cracking with the strain. The panel of judges remained impassive, their faces offering no comfort. She felt a strange tingling in her extremities, as though her blood was boiling.

Later, she found herself in the university cafeteria, the usual hubbub of conversation grating on her nerves. She ordered a coffee but couldn't bring herself to drink it. The familiar sounds of the cafeteria, once comforting, now felt like an intrusion. She pushed the food around on her plate.

She felt overwhelmed, drowning in a sea of suspicion.
