"Well, well, well," said the voice, close to Leo's ear. He didn't have to turn to know. It was Chloe. He swallowed, the movement stiff. "Enjoying the festivities?" Her tone was bright, almost too bright.

Leo nodded, keeping his gaze fixed on the dance floor. The happy couple, Sarah and Mark, were lost in each other’s eyes. He felt a sharp pang. Chloe had moved on. He hadn't.

He took a large gulp of the beer he was holding, the bitterness doing nothing to quell the internal ache. He wanted to say something, anything, but the words seemed to be caught in his throat. He just stood there, a silent spectator in his own private tragedy.
