The room seemed to tilt slightly as he saw her. He had assumed he would be fine. He had imagined this moment, rehearsed what he would say. But now, face-to-face with Olivia, all the preparation evaporated. A cold sweat erupted on his forehead.

He felt the blood drain from his face. He watched as she laughed at something someone said, her eyes bright and filled with joy. It made him feel hollow inside.

He quickly turned away, his heart thudding against his ribs. He felt a desperate urge to leave, to disappear from the room. He needed to be alone. He needed to regain his composure.
