Gemotions

The memo was waiting in her inbox. She was being transferred from the software development team to the IT help desk. Jennifer felt her breath hitch as she reread the notification. She closed her eyes, trying to make the unease dissipate, but it only amplified.

She found herself avoiding her team members. Their congratulations and platitudes felt like mockery. The projects she’d poured herself into now seemed distant and irrelevant. She couldn't focus.

She went home and, instead of her normal routine, she just sat on the couch, staring at the blank screen of the television. The silence of the apartment felt deafening, reflecting the emptiness she felt inside. She sat there, motionless, the air thick with… a sense of loss.
