"No," Clara breathed, the word a small, broken whisper. She clutched the faded flyer from the counter of the deli, the one advertising their closing date, like a lifeline. Her hands, usually bustling with activity, now felt leaden.

She’d spent every Saturday morning at The Gilded Spoon for the last fifteen years. The warmth of the sourdough bread, the familiar banter with the staff, the way the sunlight hit the polished wood tables – all of it was woven into the fabric of her life. Now, that fabric was fraying.
