"I'm thinking we should get rid of this monstrosity," David’s voice boomed, indicating the antique writing desk with a wave of his hand. It was in his grandmother's study, where he and his sister, Olivia, were sorting through the furniture. He seemed so casual, so practical.

Olivia couldn't respond. A knot formed in her throat. She remembered her grandmother’s stories, her quiet evenings spent writing at the desk.

She moved to the window, unable to bear the sight of it. The landscape swam before her eyes.
