The sunroom was bathed in a golden light, but for Grace, it felt cold. Her brother, Oliver, was laughing with his wife, discussing plans for a new garden. She stood in the doorway, feeling like an intruder.

She remembered her grandmother’s face as she tended to her plants. She remembered her warm smile and the way she would make tea.
