Gemotions

The glossy paper felt strangely smooth against her calloused fingers. She'd worked for everything she had, scraped and clawed her way to a decent life. She didn't want to go back and be reminded of the years of struggle.

She threw the invitation onto the counter, then promptly picked it up again, the weight of it in her hand. Everyone was supposed to attend, she was sure of it. Everyone, except her.

A headache began to throb behind her eyes. The thought of seeing *him* again was a physical blow. Would he even remember her? It hardly seemed worth it.
