He hadn't been expecting this. The DNA test was just a lark. Now, Thomas sat alone in the library, the world a blur of swirling emotion. His parents weren't *his* parents. The walls of his world seemed to have caved in.

He ran a hand through his hair, the gesture automatic, meaningless. He picked up a book, randomly flipping through the pages, but the words wouldn't stick. They were just ink on paper, just like his life felt right now.

He got up from the chair and walked to the window. The world outside seemed distant, unreal. He leaned his forehead against the cool glass. He needed to escape. He needed to be anywhere but here.
