"It’s just an old quilt, Aunt Clara," her nephew had said, his voice impatient, his eyes fixed on his phone. "We need to clear out the attic, make some space."

Clara watched him from the doorway, the sunlight illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air. The quilt, a patchwork of vibrant colors and intricate stitching, lay folded on a trunk. Each square held a story, a memory of her late husband and children.

She took a slow, shaky breath. The world seemed to shrink around her, the familiar sounds of the house – the ticking clock, the distant hum of the refrigerator – amplified and distorted. She nodded slowly, forcing a smile that didn't reach her eyes. The urge to flee, to hide, was almost overwhelming.
