He’d celebrated the news, shared it with his family, made plans. Now, the congratulations felt like a punch to the gut. The university sent an official notice, a dry, emotionless statement, informing Daniel that his scholarship was being rescinded due to an administrative error.

He was in the middle of a class when he got the notification. He felt a cold dread creep through his veins, the blood draining from his face. He sat frozen, unable to focus on the lecture. The professor’s words faded into background noise.

He managed to get through the rest of the day on autopilot. Back in his dorm, he threw himself onto his bed, staring at the ceiling. The future, previously clear, now seemed murky and uncertain. He felt like he had been pushed off a cliff.
