He stared at the screen, the vibrant colours of his daughter’s secret life a stark contrast to the monochrome of his own. It was like a door had slammed shut, and he was left outside in the cold. A dull throb began in his temples.

He stood up abruptly, knocking his chair backwards. It crashed to the floor.

Later, he couldn't bring himself to look at her. He made a hasty excuse and went to bed early. He pulled the covers over his head and waited for the night to end.
