Gemotions

The phone call had been short, the words clipped and impersonal. "Not a good fit for our list, I'm afraid." Sarah stared at the flickering candle on her desk, the flame dancing a mocking dance. She had been so sure. This was her moment. Her dream.

The silence in her apartment was deafening, the echoes of her aspirations reverberating around her. Her phone was in the corner of the room, as though it was an enemy. She looked at the manuscript, its cover now seeming to judge her.

She picked up a book, something light and easy, but found she couldn't concentrate. The words blurred on the page, the lines of the narrative lost to the turmoil swirling within her. She closed the book with a snap, and sat in silence, the quiet a crushing weight.
