Gemotions

I saw the email, but I did not open it. I knew what it contained. The promotion had gone to Daniel. I forced myself to finish my current task.

My palms felt clammy. My head throbbed. I felt a stinging sensation in my eyes, like a threat. I went to the washroom to splash water on my face, but even the icy coldness did little to help. I looked into the mirror at my defeated reflection.

I tried to focus on my work, but it was impossible. The letters on the screen swam before my eyes. I felt a deep longing for something, an undefined emptiness, an unbearable sensation that would not go away.
