The laptop screen glared, reflecting in Amelia’s wide eyes. There it was: the address, the familiar cedar siding, the porch swing hanging just so. The listing described "charming character" and "move-in ready." A tight knot formed in her stomach, making her want to push away from the desk entirely.

She scrolled through the photos, each one a fresh stab. The living room, painted the same shade of magnolia her mother had chosen, now gleamed with new furniture. A new family. A new life within those walls. Amelia abruptly slammed the laptop shut, the click echoing in the sudden silence of her apartment.

Her hands shook as she reached for her phone. She needed to call someone, anyone, to make the feeling in her chest dissipate. But the screen remained blank.
