He reread the words, the phrases like “move-in ready” and “updated features.” A bitterness coated his tongue. He recalled the countless hours spent playing in the backyard, the scent of the freshly cut grass, now replaced, seemingly, by an impersonal description.

His hands clenched into fists, the knuckles turning white. He felt a burning sensation behind his eyes. He got up and began to pace the room, as if trying to physically outrun the feelings that threatened to overwhelm him.

The listing was a violation, an erasure.
