He stared at the email, the screen blurring. The subject line read: “Therapy Appointment.” It was a notification from his insurance provider. He didn't recognise the name listed, but the address… His throat felt constricted.

He'd tried to forget about the incident. The cruel words, the public humiliation. It had felt like being branded. It was difficult to breathe, he noticed.

He found himself pacing his living room, the familiar lines of his apartment failing to soothe him. Why now? Why did she have to choose him? He felt a sudden, profound desire to hide, to disappear.
