The announcement came over the school's loud speakers. "Please remain seated, the history exam results have been distributed." James felt a cold dread creep up his spine. When he saw the grade, a D, his hands clenched into fists. He had studied for hours. He had done the extra credit. He felt a burning in his eyes, but he blinked and kept them down, focusing on the scuff marks on the old wooden desk. He needed to get out of there, away from the judging eyes of his classmates.
