It was a chance glance at the laptop screen that revealed the truth. Sam caught a glimpse of the words, "Chapter 12: Betrayal." He knew those words well. He also knew he shouldn’t have looked. He found that the story was about their life, but from her perspective. The protagonist, a man named Sam, was a liar and a cheat.

He felt the blood rush to his face, making his cheeks burn. He closed the laptop quickly and sat back. He watched his partner, Emily, as she moved around the kitchen, her movements graceful and unhurried. He wanted to scream.

He made himself a cup of coffee. The warm liquid did nothing to thaw the iciness that had settled in his limbs. He didn't say a word. He went to bed early, pretending to be asleep when she came in.
