The coffee mug slipped from Leo's grasp, shattering on the tile floor. He stared at the mess, his mind still reeling. The bucket list, carelessly tossed onto the coffee table, was a collection of dreams he wasn’t a part of. Travel the world. Write a novel. Adopt a dog. All things that, he realized, she hadn’t considered doing with him.

He knelt, picking up the larger shards of ceramic, his hands trembling. The silence in the apartment pressed in on him, amplifying the ache in his chest. He felt like an intruder, suddenly aware of how little he truly knew about the woman he loved.

He gathered up the pieces of the mug, each movement robotic, detached. He'd always known she was independent, but this...this was different. This was a confirmation he wasn't wanted.
