“Take a pottery class with someone special.” The words jumped out at him from the page. Michael’s bucket list, carelessly left open on the kitchen counter. Liam felt the blood drain from his face. They had pottery wheels, still unused, in the garage. They had talked about taking lessons together, but it never happened.

He swallowed hard, the lump in his throat making it difficult to breathe. He stared at the list, each item a fresh wound. He ran a hand through his hair, a gesture of confusion and dismay.

He heard the front door open, Michael's voice calling out a cheerful greeting. Liam closed the list, his fingers clumsily fumbling with the covers. He met him in the hallway, forcing a smile onto his face, feeling utterly unhinged.
