Gemotions

The smell of stale coffee and desperation permeated the lobby. A meeting was called. People were huddled together, muttering and exchanging worried glances. David, usually so gregarious, found himself avoiding eye contact. He felt a profound sense of loss, a disconnection from the comfortable routine of his life. He stared at his calloused hands, as if they could explain why the world was suddenly shifting beneath his feet. The prospect of change felt like a looming shadow, heavy and inescapable. He excused himself, abruptly, and walked away.
