The phone vibrated on the table, another notification. Liam ignored it. He sat in his favorite armchair, the worn leather a comforting presence, and replayed the conversation he’d just had with the building manager. He’d signed a two-year lease. A lawyer would be contacted. Anger sparked, but it fizzled, replaced by a deep and abiding sadness. He picked up his guitar, the instrument's familiar weight offering a small measure of solace.
