The email. The subject line, “Your Legacy,” sent a bolt of pure, unadulterated terror through her. She clicked it open, her fingers fumbling over the mouse. The attached document. A PDF. *The Life and Times of Evelyn Reed.*

Her breath caught in her chest, a sharp, stabbing pain. She scrolled through the pages, her heart hammering against her ribs. Each sentence, each paragraph, was a violation. Her life, her secrets, her deepest fears, all laid bare.

She gasped, tears blurring her vision. She felt as though her skin had been peeled back. She slammed her laptop shut, the metallic clank a jarring sound in the stillness of her apartment.
