Gemotions

Sarah could feel the tremor in her hands before the first swing of the sledgehammer. It wasn’t a loud noise, not yet. But the *feeling* of it, the deep vibration that resonated through her teeth, made her stomach churn. Her mouth was dry. She ran to the window, the image of the construction crew a blur.

“Oh, God, not now,” she whispered, her voice barely audible. Her chest was tight. She pressed a hand against it, trying to ground herself. The pounding started then, a relentless, rhythmic attack on her sanity. She grabbed her keys, her hand shaking so badly she dropped them.

She knelt to retrieve them, the cold tile floor doing nothing to soothe the fiery heat that was rising in her face. Outside, the world was a cacophony. She fumbled with the locks, her fingers clumsy and unresponsive. She had to get away.
