He stared at the screen, the message glowing with an almost taunting intensity. "Hey! I'm around the corner at the comic book store. Come hang!" His breath hitched in his chest. A dizzying wave of heat washed over him, making him lightheaded. He felt like he might pass out. This… this was not supposed to happen. He'd poured his heart out online, confided secrets he'd never told anyone, and now… now she was *there*.

He jumped up, knocking his chair over with a loud crash. He barely registered the noise. His hands were shaking so violently he could barely manage to button his jacket. He fumbled with the zipper, his fingers clumsy and uncooperative. The thought of seeing her, *face to face*… it was overwhelming, a tidal wave of sensations threatening to drown him.

He glanced at the clock on his wall. 3:17 p.m. She'd be waiting. Panic tightened its grip around his throat, making it difficult to breathe. He grabbed his keys, and slammed the door behind him.
